  • 2 cups milk Whole milk for richer taste; almond milk for dairy-free option.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavors.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper A pinch elevates taste.
  • 4 cups cubed bread Opt for sourdough or crusty artisan loaf.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Choose your favorite type.
  • 1/2 cup diced bell pepper Any color you like.
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions Adds freshness.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • In the same skillet, pour out excess grease, leaving a tablespoon, and add diced bell pepper. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until soft.
  • Whisk eggs, milk, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until well blended.
  • Crumble the bacon and stir it into the egg mixture, followed by the sautéed peppers, bread cubes, and cheese.
  • Mix gently until combined and pour the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Sprinkle additional cheese on top.

Baking

  • Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the casserole is puffy and the top is golden.
  • Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

You can add fresh herbs, swap bacon with diced ham or sausage, or use gluten-free bread. If you want extra crunch, broil for the last 2-3 minutes.
