  • 1 lb Ground beef Ground turkey or plant-based alternatives can be substituted.
  • 15 oz Ricotta cheese Mix with herbs for added flavor.
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese Part-skim for a lighter option.
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese Adds depth and nutty flavor.
  • 24 oz Marinara sauce Use store-bought or homemade.
  • 1 Egg Helps bind the cheese mixture.
  • 1 tsp Oregano Essential for Italian flavor.
  • 1 tsp Basil Essential for Italian flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp Salt To taste.
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper To taste.
  • 2 cups Fresh spinach Optional, adds nutrition and color.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in 2 cups of your marinara sauce and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, egg, half of the mozzarella, and a pinch of salt and pepper.

Layering and Baking

  • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish, followed by a layer of lasagna noodles.
  • Add a generous layer of the ricotta mixture, then some fresh spinach if you’re using it. Top with more meat sauce.
  • Repeat the layers until you reach the top of the dish, finishing with a layer of remaining marinara and a blanket of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Allow the lasagna to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, replace ground beef with mushrooms, zucchini, and bell peppers. Use fresh basil or parsley for flavor infusion. For a spicy kick, add crushed red pepper flakes.
