Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour Use almond flour for a gluten-free option.
  • 1 ¾ cups Granulated sugar Can be substituted with coconut sugar.
  • ¾ cup Unsweetened cocoa powder Choose high-quality cocoa for the best taste.
  • 1 ½ tsp Baking soda Helps the cake rise beautifully.
  • ½ tsp Salt Balances the sweetness.

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large Eggs Can be substituted with flax eggs or applesauce for a vegan option.
  • 1 cup Whole milk Use almond milk for a dairy-free version.
  • ½ cup Vegetable oil Melted coconut oil works too.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Enhances all the flavors.
  • 1 cup Fresh strawberries, sliced Provides a burst of fresh flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans with cooking spray or butter.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Sift together to ensure there are no lumps.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are fine.
  • Gently fold in the sliced strawberries into the batter, allowing their sweet juice to mingle with the chocolatey goodness.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Layer and frost with your favorite chocolate buttercream or whipped cream, topping it off with a few fresh strawberries for visual appeal.

Notes
