  • 1 pound ground beef Choose lean beef for a healthier option or swap for ground turkey.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped You can use shallots for a milder flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Add extra for more kick!
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce Crushed tomatoes can be used for a chunkier texture.
  • 2 cups cooked pasta Elbow macaroni works best, but any pasta can do.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) Dairy-free options are acceptable.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Feel free to mix in your favorite herbs.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Essential for that perfect finish.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and get your casserole dish ready.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef.
  • Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, mix the cooked pasta with the beef and sauce mixture.
  • Spoon half of the pasta mix into a greased casserole dish. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese on top, then layer the rest of the pasta mix, finishing with the remaining cheese.
  • Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden.
  • Let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Feel free to add crushed red pepper flakes for heat, or mix in bell peppers or mushrooms for extra nutrition. This casserole pairs perfectly with garlic bread and a fresh garden salad.
