Preparation

  • In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  • In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the flour and cook for about one minute to form a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.
  • Lower the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar and cream cheese until completely melted and smooth. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Combining

  • Gently fold the cooked pasta into the cheese sauce until well coated.
