Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Slice the Yukon Gold potatoes thinly (about 1/8 inch thick) using a sharp knife or mandoline.
  • In a large bowl, combine heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir until well mixed.

Layering

  • Layer half of the potato slices in the greased baking dish, then pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese.
  • Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and top with the remaining cheddar and sprinkle Parmesan on top.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  • Uncover the dish and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender when poked with a fork.
  • Let it rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For wholesome variations, consider adding bacon, using different vegetables like onions or spinach, or substituting dairy ingredients with plant-based options. Always remember to soak potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes to reduce starch for better results.
