Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour For the perfect rise and fluffy texture.
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast Helps the rolls rise quickly.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Balances the flavors and adds sweetness.
  • 1 tsp salt Enhances the overall taste.

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C) Activates the yeast; feel free to use almond or oat milk for a dairy-free option.
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted Richness that gives these rolls a delicious flavor. You can substitute with olive oil for a healthier fat.
  • 1 large egg Adds moisture and richness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and the egg until well combined.
  • Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 15 minutes.

Baking

  • After the dough has risen slightly, punch it down, and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each into a ball by tucking the edges underneath.
  • Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, ensuring they are touching. Cover and let rise for another 10 minutes.
  • While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake the rolls for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Once baked, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For variations, consider adding herbs like rosemary, using whole wheat flour, incorporating cheese, or cinnamon for sweet rolls. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
