Ingredients

For the Sliders

  • 12 pieces soft dinner rolls (like King's Hawaiian or dinner rolls) – split in half horizontally.
  • 12-16 ounces thinly sliced ham – choose honey ham for a touch of sweetness or black forest for a smoky note.
  • 8 ounces Swiss cheese, sliced (or provolone or cheddar) – melts beautifully.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter – melted, to brush the tops.
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard – brightens the richness.
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds – optional, for a bakery-style finish.
  • 1 teaspoon dried minced onion or 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh onion – adds depth.
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup – optional for a glaze. Swap butter for olive oil for a lighter option; nutritional yeast adds cheesy flavor without dairy.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment if you like easier cleanup.
  • Slice the dinner rolls horizontally, keeping them attached as a full sheet if possible for easy assembly. Lightly toast the cut sides.
  • Lay the bottom halves in the baking dish. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard across the rolls.
  • Layer the ham evenly over the rolls. Top with slices of Swiss cheese.

Baking

  • Place the top half of the rolls on, then whisk melted butter with minced onion and poppy seeds. Brush this mixture over the tops.
  • Cover loosely with foil and bake for 12–15 minutes until the cheese is melted and everything is heated through. Remove the foil and bake 2–3 more minutes to get the tops gently golden.

Serving

  • Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing into individual sliders. Serve warm.
