Ingredients

Slider Base

  • 12 pieces small slider rolls or dinner rolls Soft and slightly sweet for best contrast with savory ham.
  • 12 slices deli ham Smoky or honey-glazed work beautifully; substitute turkey for a leaner option.
  • 12 slices Swiss cheese or cheddar Swiss melts beautifully; try provolone for a sharper bite.

Toppings

  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted Adds richness and helps the tops brown.
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard Brightens the flavor; swap for honey mustard for a sweeter finish.
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds Classic topping; sesame seeds or everything seasoning are fun swaps.
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder Subtle savory lift; replace with 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh chives for freshness.
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons mayonnaise For an extra creamy layer; use Greek yogurt for a tangy, healthy option.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or line with parchment for easy cleanup.
  • Slice the slider rolls horizontally, keeping tops and bottoms intact like a little sandwich book.
  • Lay the bottom halves in the dish close together so the sliders bake into perfect pull-apart pieces.

Layering

  • Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise or butter on the bottom halves if using.
  • Arrange the ham slices evenly over the bottoms, then top with a slice of cheese on each.

Assembly

  • Place the top halves on.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, onion powder, and poppy seeds until smooth.
  • Drizzle or brush this mixture generously over the tops of the rolls.

Baking

  • Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 10 minutes, until the cheese starts to melt.
  • Remove the foil and bake an additional 2–5 minutes until the tops are golden and the edges are bubbling.

Serving

  • Let the sliders rest for 2 minutes — this helps them set so they pull apart beautifully.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

You can make these sliders spicy by swapping Dijon for spicy brown mustard and adding a few dashes of hot sauce. For a vegetarian option, use sliced roasted vegetables, pesto, and provolone.
