Ingredients

For the Labneh

  • 2 cups plain yogurt Use whole milk yogurt for creaminess; Greek yogurt can be used for a thicker texture.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Helps to draw out water from the yogurt, thickening it.
  • 1/4 cup fresh herbs Such as parsley, dill, and mint; feel free to mix and match.
  • 1 clove garlic Minced; more can be added for a stronger taste.
  • 1 piece lemon zest Brightens the flavor; lime can be a great alternative.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Enhances richness; consider infused oils for extra flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine the plain yogurt with salt. Stir until the salt dissolves.
  • Place a cheesecloth or fine mesh sieve over a bowl, pouring the yogurt mixture into it. Tie up the edges and let it strain in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  • In another bowl, combine the strained yogurt with minced garlic, chopped herbs, and lemon zest. Mix well.
  • Transfer the herbed labneh to a serving dish, create a well in the center, and drizzle with olive oil.
  • Garnish with additional herbs if desired and serve with pita bread or fresh veggies.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Freezing is not recommended. Allow the labneh to chill for at least 2 hours for the best flavor.
