  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until it’s no longer pink, breaking it into small pieces.
  • Stir in the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion becomes translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
  • Pour in the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Add the Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let this simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • Fold the cooked macaroni into the beef mixture and stir until well combined. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  • Once the cheese is melted and everything is heated through, serve immediately.

Notes

Feel free to use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option. Swap beef for lentils for a vegetarian option. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days or freeze for up to three months.
