Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour The foundation for our rolls, providing the perfect structure.
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast Helps our rolls rise, giving them that fluffy texture.
  • 1 1/2 cups Warm Water Activates the yeast and creates a moist environment for the dough.
  • 1/4 cup Sugar Adds a touch of sweetness and helps the yeast grow.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor while balancing the sweetness.
  • 1/4 cup Oil For that lovely, tender crumb.
  • as needed Butter (for brushing) Optional, but who can resist a buttery finish?

Substitutions

  • 4 cups Whole Wheat Flour For a nuttier flavor and added nutrition.
  • 1/4 cup Coconut oil or Olive oil For a dairy-free version.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • Add flour, salt, and oil to the yeast mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until combined.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Once risen, punch down the dough to expel air. Shape into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
  • Place the balls in a greased baking dish, cover again, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Immediately upon removal from the oven, brush the rolls with melted butter for that glossy, irresistible finish.

Notes

For herbed rolls, add fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme to the dough. For a cheesy delight, fold in shredded cheese before shaping. For a garlic butter topping, mix minced garlic with melted butter and brush over the rolls before serving.
