Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef For traditional taste; can substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Can use crushed oats or gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese Substitute with nutritional yeast for a vegan option.
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped Adds a burst of color and freshness.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic enhances flavor; powdered garlic can be used in a pinch.
  • 1 egg Acts as a binder; a flax egg works for a vegan alternative.
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce Use your favorite brand; cherry wood-smoked offers a unique twist.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Essential for seasoning.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, minced garlic, the egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until just incorporated, being careful not to overmix.
  • Scoop the mixture into palm-sized balls, about 1 inch in diameter. You should get around 24 meatballs.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add a splash of oil. Once hot, gently add the meatballs, browning them on all sides for about 5-7 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to low and pour in the BBQ sauce, coating each meatball. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes.

Serving

  • Serve meatballs hot, garnished with extra parsley if desired.

Notes

For healthier options, substitute ground turkey or lean ground beef. You can also use gluten-free breadcrumbs. For a sweeter BBQ flavor, add a tablespoon of honey or brown sugar.
