Ingredients

For the Sliders

  • 12 pieces slider buns (dinner rolls) Soft, slightly sweet rolls like brioche work well.
  • 12 slices deli ham Good-quality or leftover baked ham for depth of flavor.
  • 8 ounces Swiss cheese, sliced Cheddar or Gruyere are great substitutions.

For the Topping

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted Adds golden flavor to the tops.
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard Can substitute with yellow mustard for milder flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon honey Maple syrup is a lovely alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon poppy seeds Optional, for a classic diner-style finish.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Swap for garlic powder if preferred.
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise mixed with grated Parmesan optional, for extra richness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking dish with parchment or lightly grease it.
  • Slice the slider buns in half horizontally, keeping the tops and bottoms together. Place the bottom halves in the prepared dish.
  • Layer ham slices evenly over the bottom buns. Next, lay the Swiss cheese on top of the ham.
  • Close the sliders with the top halves of the buns.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, Dijon mustard, honey, onion powder, and a pinch of pepper. Brush this mixture over the tops of the buns.
  • Sprinkle poppy seeds and extra onion powder on top. If using the parmesan mayo, spread it thinly between the layers.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden-brown.
  • For a crispy top, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end, watching carefully.
  • Let the sliders rest for 2 minutes before serving.

Notes

These sliders can be made ahead of time and freeze well. For a healthier option, use whole grain rolls and lean turkey instead of ham.
