Ingredients

Hummus Varieties

  • 1 cup Classic hummus Use store-bought or homemade.
  • 1 cup Roasted red pepper hummus or beet hummus Adds color and a sweet-roasted note.

Toppings and Accompaniments

  • 2 tablespoons Extra virgin olive oil For drizzling.
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika For a smoky dusting.
  • 1 medium Lemon wedges Brightens every bite.
  • 1 cup Cherry tomatoes Juicy bursts of sweetness.
  • 1 medium Cucumber ribbons Peel into ribbons for elegance.
  • 1 cup Pickled vegetables Quick-pickled red onions or cucumbers recommended.
  • 0.5 cup Kalamata olives Briny, meaty bites.
  • 0.5 cup Roasted nuts Almonds or pistachios, roughly chopped.
  • 8 pieces Pita bread, sliced and toasted Warm, pillowy scoops.
  • 1 cup Whole grain crackers For extra texture.
  • 0.25 cup Fresh herbs Parsley and cilantro for fragrant green pops.
  • 0.5 cup Feta crumbles Optional, adds salty creaminess for non-vegan guests.
  • 1 tablespoon Za’atar or sumac For sprinkling.

Instructions

Arrangement

  • Choose your board: a large wooden cutting board, a baking sheet, or a pretty platter. Wipe it clean and arrange small bowls for hummus varieties first.
  • Spoon hummus into bowls: make one classic and one flavored for color contrast. Smooth the surface and create little wells to hold olive oil. Drizzle each with olive oil and sprinkle smoked paprika or za’atar.
  • Add starches: fan warm toasted pita on one side and scatter crackers in small stacks.
  • Place fresh produce: tuck cherry tomatoes, cucumber ribbons, and lemon wedges in clusters around the hummus bowls.
  • Layer in pickles and olives, their briny notes are small fireworks against the creamy hummus.
  • Scatter textures: sprinkle roasted nuts and feta crumbles over open spaces. Finish with a handful of herbs to add freshness and lift.
  • Final flourish: drizzle more olive oil, crack a bit of pepper, and offer small spoons and spreaders.

Notes

For a festive meal, add roasted seasonal vegetables. Make gluten-free by using lentil crackers. Store hummus in airtight containers for up to 3 days.
