Ingredients

Meat and Vegetable Base

  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef (ribeye, sirloin, or flank steak), or use thin-sliced roast beef for convenience
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced sweet and caramelized
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced adds brightness and crunch
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for browning and flavor
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced fragrant and savory
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce deepens the savory notes
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika optional, for a gentle smokiness
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced optional, for an earthy layer

Cheese and Sauce

  • 2 cups shredded provolone or mozzarella melts into luscious, gooey ribbons
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar for tang and color
  • 1 1/2 cups marinara or pizza sauce helps keep it moist; use low-sodium if preferred

Base Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked rice, pasta, or cubed bread the base of your choice
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for a bright finish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and peppers. Sauté until softened and starting to caramelize, about 6–8 minutes.
  • Push the vegetables to the side and add the beef slices. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and add the minced garlic. Cook until the beef is just browned.
  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce and mushrooms, if using.

Assembly

  • In a large bowl, combine the cooked rice (or pasta or cubed bread) with marinara sauce and half of the shredded cheeses. Fold in the beef and vegetable mixture until everything is evenly coated.
  • Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and top with the remaining cheese.

Baking

  • Bake for 20–25 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden. For a bubbly, browned top, broil for 1–2 minutes while watching closely.
  • Let rest for 5 minutes, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve warm.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze before baking.
