Preparation

  • Start by placing the chicken (or your chosen protein) at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Sprinkle the chopped onion and minced garlic over the protein.
  • Pour the barbecue sauce over the meat, making sure to coat it generously.
  • Add apple cider vinegar and smoked paprika. Stir gently to combine all the flavors.
  • Season with salt and pepper.

Cooking

  • Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours.
  • When it’s done, shred the meat with two forks right in the slow cooker, mixing it with the sauce.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add a chopped jalapeño or hot sauce. Mix in pineapple juice for a tropical twist. Consider using homemade barbecue sauce for a lighter option.
