Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds pork spare ribs Look for ribs with a good amount of meat.
  • 1 cup soy sauce This forms the base of your sauce.
  • ½ cup rice vinegar Adds the signature tang.
  • ¾ cup brown sugar For a rich, caramelized sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Gives depth to the flavor.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced For aromatic layers of flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated Adds a fresh zing.
  • 1 large red bell pepper, sliced For color and crunch.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch To thicken the sauce.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  • Rinse the spare ribs and pat them dry.
  • In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger until well combined.
  • Place the ribs in a large bowl or ziplock bag and pour half of the sweet and sour sauce over them. Marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  • Place the ribs in a baking dish lined with foil. Pour the remaining sauce over the top.

Cooking

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 2 hours.
  • Uncover the ribs and sprinkle sliced red bell pepper over them.
  • Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and bake for an additional 30 minutes, basting with the pan juices every 10 minutes.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat gently in the oven.
