  • 15 oz Ricotta cheese Adds a creamy texture; can substitute with cottage cheese for a lighter option.
  • 4 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded The star of the show; consider using part-skim for a healthier twist.
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated A sprinkle of this sharp cheese brings depth to the flavor; nutritional yeast can be a dairy-free substitute.
  • 3 cups Marinara sauce Use your favorite store-bought brand or homemade.
  • 1 large Egg Binds the ricotta and adds richness; skip for a vegan option.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Essential for seasoning; consider adding Italian herbs for extra flavor.
  • 2 cups Spinach, chopped Optional; a great way to sneak in some greens.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the grated Parmesan. Season with salt and pepper. Mix until creamy and smooth.
  • Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Layering

  • Layer your ingredients: Place the noodles over the sauce, spread half of the ricotta mixture, top with a generous handful of mozzarella, and drizzle some more marinara sauce. Repeat until you run out of ingredients.
  • Finish with a layer of noodles topped with marinara and the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is melted to perfection and lightly golden.

Serving

  • Allow the lasagna to rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Consider adding cooked ground beef or Italian sausage for a heartier twist. You may also incorporate diced vegetables or sprinkle fresh herbs before serving.
