Ingredients

For the apples

  • 6 cups Apples, peeled and sliced Use your favorite variety or a mix; Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best.
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice Brightens flavors and prevents browning.
  • 1/4 cup Maple syrup A natural sweetener that enhances the apple’s taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Adds cozy spice.

For the topping

  • 1 cup Oats Old-fashioned oats give the crisp a hearty texture.
  • 1/2 cup Flour All-purpose or gluten-free blend work well.
  • 1/3 cup Coconut oil, melted Provides moisture; can use vegan butter as an alternative.
  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar For caramel-like sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup Nuts, optional Chopped walnuts or pecans for added crunch.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, maple syrup, and cinnamon until well-coated.
  • Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading evenly.

Topping

  • In another bowl, mix oats, flour, melted coconut oil, brown sugar, and nuts (if using) until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the apples.

Baking

  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  • Allow the crisp to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a healthier option, consider using coconut sugar instead of brown sugar or replacing maple syrup with agave nectar. You can also add berries or experiment with spices for variations.
